The
Ninth International Conference "Approximation
and Optimization in the Caribbean"
(APPOPT’2008)
will take place during March
2-7, 2008 in San
Andres Island, Colombia. The
conference is supported by the
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
and sponsored by a number of higher educational and research
institutions of Colombia.
APPOPT 2008 is endorsed by the Colombian
Mathematical Society (SCM) and
the Regional
School of
Mathematics (ERM) and will be
hosted by the community of
Colombian scholars and engineers working in the field of applied
mathematics.
The
working language of the conference is English; however, we plan to
organize several special sessions in Spanish.
The
goal of APPOPT’2008 is to bring together mathematicians,
engineers and other specialists from a variety of related disciplines,
which are at the forefront of their research fields, to exchange
original ideas and present high-level unpublished research in the areas
of approximation, optimization and related fields with principal focus
in (but not limited to):
- Approximation:
wavelets, polynomial and rational approximation, splines, orthogonal
polynomials, interpolation, asymptotic analysis, radial basis
functions, Fourier approximations, functional spaces and nonlinear
techniques of approximation.
- Optimization:
linear, non-linear, discrete, continuous, parametric, stochastic,
multi-objective and global optimization; nonlinear equations and
inequalities; convex, non-convex and non-smooth analysis; critical
point theory, numerical methods for optimization; calculus of
variation, optimal control, variational inequalities and game theory;
numerical techniques for dynamic optimization.
- Mathematical
economics:
operations research, fixed-point
theory, equilibrium for competitive economies, portfolio problems,
cooperative and non-cooperative games.
- Applications:
engineering and energy
models, robotics, pattern
recognition, image processing and restoration, interdisciplinary
applications of approximation and optimization theory and methods in
economics, engineering and general sciences.
Contributions
with focus on the results of joint Caribbean projects and/or involving
young researchers are especially welcomed.
The
conference will include invited lectures, mini-symposia, peer reviewed
contributed papers and posters session. We intend to publish a volume
of proceedings of papers presented at the conference.
The purpose of APPOPT 2008 is not limited by the arrangement of
enriching lectures, short communications and posters presentations. We
consider it is equally important to create a pleasant environment in
which the participants can discuss diverse topics of their professional
interest with other delegates, make new friends and meet the old ones.
We are confident that the participation in the conference will bring
you valued professional and cultural experience.
